1973 RIF - Reading Is Fundamental PSA

A 1973 RIF Reading Is Fundamental public service announcement. RIF has an interesting history... it was originally started in 1966 by Margaret McNamara, the wife of Robert McNamara, sec of Defense under Kennedy and Johnson. Margaret became interested in reading programs when her husband was appointed in the early 60s. Margaret secured numerous endowments from the Ford Foundation (no doubt help by the fact her husband was a former CEO and "whiz kid" at Ford). RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year. This is one of their early national PSAs that aired around March of 1973.
